Wrestlers take the mat

It’s wresting season here at Kenwood High School. Excitement is everywhere and most people can’t wait to see the matches. They recently had a Takedown Jam on Saturday, November 7.
Dameshia Smith, wrestling manager, says that she feels okay about this year’s team.
“The team could use a little work but overall it’s a good team and I’m excited,” said Smith.
The wresting coach is Nicholas Williamson. He has been the wrestling coach for the last few years and is continuing to grow the program.
“I feel really good about this year’s team! We have worked really hard all year long and have more returning back this year than we have had since I have been here,” he said.
In preparing for the season Coach Williamson has expanded the home matches and has goals for his wrestlers for the whole season.
“We have opened up the schedule to three home meets, two in which are quads (4 teams wrestling). I am hoping to participate in the District Duals this season and sending more individuals to the TSSAA State Championships. “
The Kenwood Knights wrestling team’s first match is November 24, 2015 at Cane Ridge with Smyrna and Northeast.
The team is also having a T-shirt fundraiser to raise money to purchase team warm-ups. Short sleeves are $15 and long sleeves are $22. You can pick up a form in the front office if you are interested in buying one.
